  • What does an individual session with horses look like?
Each session is customized to your needs and questions. Typically, we will have a check in to set a goal or hopes for the session. Each session includes body centered awareness activities and at least one activity with the horses or an individual horse. Activities vary depending on what your goal/hope is and there are many different activities I may choose from (or the horses tell me they want to do). The first session for adults is normally 2-2 ½ hours. Sessions thereafter are 1 ½-2 hours. For youth under 18 – sessions are 1 hour.
  • What to wear?
Dress for the weather and bring layers. Always wear sturdy, closed toed shoes.
  • Are we indoors or outdoors?
We do have an indoor space that we can meet in for the check in but all activities with horses are outside.
  • Can I ride?
Most activities with horses are based on the ground. Very occasionally we facilitate a mounted session after a series of other sessions, but riding is limited to the round pen and surrounding area. Helmets are always required for any mounted session.
  • What should I bring?
Having a water bottle is suggested. If you have a personal journal, you can bring that to capture your reflections before leaving.
  • Can I bring my dog or guests?
Due to our insurance, your dog is not allowed to visit. If you have a service dog, please let us know prior to your session and we will work this out. Guests allowed with prior arrangement though not encouraged. For kids under 18 attending an individual session, parents/guardians are encouraged to stay close – many bring a book and read in their car or at the picnic table. We want the kids to have privacy if they like or have their parent nearby for comfort. We’ll work with you! For kids attending group programs, we encourage parents to drive into Lyons, go for a hike and enjoy your time elsewhere while the kids have their experience.
  • Can I volunteer?
Let’s talk! Volunteers help scoop and dump manure (mucking), act as horse handlers during sessions, help with grooming the horses or with chores around the property.
