Horse Wisdom: Be in the Moment

The horses have been reminding me to slow down and be in the moment.

The last 6 weeks have been filled with both good and difficult times and so their reminder has been especially important.

Many of you know our beloved dog Harley who loved to greet visitors and participate in sessions. We discovered that he had an untreatable tumor on his heart and so made the difficult decision to euthanize him to alleviate his suffering. What a huge loss! A few weeks later we were introduced to an 8 week old Shepherd Mix puppy who has claimed us as her people and she moved in - her name is Athena. So a huge mix of grief and joy! She is learning the rhythm of the horses, ranch and household and we are all learning to live with one another.

June also was filled with wonderful events and programs in partnership with the herd and so many moments of learning, peace, discovery, healing and joy.

Isn't that how life goes? Loss, grief, joy, learning, discovery, or fun can come in a flurry whether we are ready or not. This lesson from the horses to slow down and be in the moment and really feel and notice what is happening in my body, my mind, my heart has really helped me move through everything happening.

I have felt the pain and sting of grief, and laughed so hard my sides hurt.

I let myself sit and breathe when my mind starts racing with the next task that needs to be done and crossed off my list.

I nourish my body with food and rest so that I can keep showing up in all the ways.

I ask for help when I need it from trusted friends and family.

One moment at a time, not rushing things, and not ignoring what's coming up.

Maybe the photo of Bonnie and Anu grazing together offers you a reminder to slow down, be present and take things one moment at time as well. It sure brought me lots of peace and comfort watching them the other day.

The horses are open, eager, and seem to genuinely love sharing their wisdom and offering their whole selves to whoever has courage to come and experience what they have to offer. What a joy and honor to be partnering with these wonderful beings to bring clarity, hope, peace, and deeper self awareness to everyone who comes.
