Horse Wisdom - Receive

The last few weeks have been super special here at Dancing Spirit. We have hosted a Sound Bath (photo below), monthly meditation, a personal retreat and individual sessions.  In addition, Bonnie & Clyde have visited Senior Living Communities. People have left sessions with clarity about next steps, a new sense of direction, renewed energy, and a feeling of centeredness in themselves.

And in between we have had downtime to rest and refresh. During the Sound Bath, the horses received some healing from the music as well as offered some to the participants. It was a special day. I especially appreciated watching Sweetie weave in between receiving and giving. She knew what she needed and she had no hesitation in receiving. And when she was filled up and ready, she offered attention to the humans. Then she received love and support for herself.

The herd has many ways of taking care of themselves. When they have something to offer, they engage in their own unique ways. When they have given enough, they walk away, get a drink, lick on the salt block or take a nap. They rest, eat, play and roll in the grass or mud. No one gives more than they have and know their limits.

The herd is a good model for me. Maybe for you too. Humans tend to forget to get rest and get filled up. Many of us over-do or over-function in service to others. When we do that we are not good to anyone, including ourselves. The horses invite me to deeper awareness about what I need in order to be present with people. I find that when I am more aware and have balance, I feel better and can be more present to those I companion.

What a gift the herd is for me every day! They are beautiful companions inviting me to go deeper and be my best self.
