Listen to Your Heart

Writer: Jackie HibbardJackie Hibbard

Horses, with their huge hearts, are naturally heart centered beings and they invite us to be heart centered (rather than brain centered).

The last two Saturday's I have had the honor of facilitating groups of folks teaching them HeartMath Institute practices while we are with the horses. I am an Add Heart Facilitator and have taken 2 of their courses. The way the horses and humans respond during and after our practice has been breathtaking.

During our first session, Clyde and Anu laid down and napped while 6 humans (4 who they did not know) sat not far away. Horses (prey animals) laying down and napping while humans (predators) are nearby is quite something to behold. This magnificent scene was made possible because we spent time getting into our bodies and listening to our hearts. As we practiced heart-focused breathing and deepened our practice, everything within us and around us shifted. 2 horses laid down and napped, while 2 others, super relaxed, stood nearby. Our hearts became more coherent and our nervous systems calmer, more centered and balanced.

It is safe to say that everyone involved in that session, horse and human, left in a better state emotionally, energetically, spiritually and mentally than when we arrived. The power of listening to and responding with our heart and the wisdom it has for us could not have been more clear. It is a powerful lesson for us to listen to and lead with our hearts and not allow fear, anxiety, chaos, trauma or pain to take us over. When we listen to and lead with our heart, we find strength, courage, compassion, kindness and so much more for ourselves and we can share it with those around us.

This is how I want to live and lead right now. I'm choosing to practice being heart focused and heart centered. It's making a difference in how I feel and how I respond and I believe it makes a difference in how others experience me as well. And, it's a practice. Some days I can do this more readily and other days I find it difficult. So, I keep practicing and keep listening to the horses and their heart centered way of being.

I'd welcome the opportunity to share these heart centered practices with you anytime. We are here to support you on your journey! Whether you are looking for some individual work or sessions in groups, we have something for you.
